This meal was a complete failure if you judge it by what I was aiming for.  When I first started this recipe I wanted to come up with a traditional Italian recipe.  Now I know I am not Italian in any way other than I am married to one.  But I wanted to make something that Italians would have made before Tomatoes were brought back from the new world.  I wanted to do this because it is so amazing to me how tomatoes are such a huge part of Italian cuisine when they were not native to Europe much less Italy!  So I thought about what we had on hand and went about making a pre-New World inspired recipe...  Only to realize once I was finished that I had added potatoes... A darn New World ingredients!!!  No matter how I tried I could not escape Columbus it seems.  Regardless of what I was trying to do, Zo really loved this recipe.  So much so that she over ate a had a little tummy ache.  So enjoy the Nuovo Mondo sauce or as I will cal it my old world failed attempt.

Pasta
16 oz wheat fettuccine
1 tbsp olive oil

Sauce
1 lb Hot Italian Sausage
1/2 of a yellow onion (chopped)
1 purple potato (chopped)
2 red potatoes (chopped)
1 1/2 cups fresh broccoli (chopped)
2 cloves garlic (diced)
1/2 tsp ground oregano
1/2 tsp ground thyme
2 tbsp butter
Kosher salt (to taste)
fresh crack pepper (to taste)
1 package cream cheese (softened)
3/4 cup half and half
1 1/2 cup Sauvigan Blanc
1 tbsp Parmesan Reggiano
3 tbsp Italian Parsley (chopped)

Pasta
cook pasta according to packages instructions.  Strain, mix with olive oil and sit to side keeping warm until ready to use.

Sauce
Melt butter in a large sauce pan over medium heat.  Once heated add onion, garlic, potatoes, thyme, oregano, salt and pepper, cook for 6-7 minutes stirring often.  Fold in Italian sausage until well blended and cook for 4-5 minutes, stirring often.  Fold in broccoli until well blended and then pour in white wine, cooking for 3 minutes stirring often. Add cream cheese, half and half, Parmesan Reggiano and parsley to sauce and mix until even.  Once even immediately turn heat down to medium low and let simmer for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Spoon sauce over noodles and enjoy!
